Camp Descriptions

What historic hijinks and mysteries lurk in Montana’s past? In this camp, we will discover the stories of Native Americans, gold seekers, fur trappers, and homesteaders through diverse hands-on experiences. Join us to pan for gold, play native games, and try your hand at some settler chores and crafts.

Look out! If it is flung, shot, launched, or thrown, it’s BALLISTIC! We will have an explosive time with spears, arrows, rocks, rockets, and potatoes in this exciting physics-based summer camp with plenty of hands-on projects.

Calling all space explorers! Join us on a thrilling journey beyond our planet to explore the inner workings of rockets. Then, discover the secrets of our neighboring planets and even guide yourself through the stars of our galaxy.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to become a true paleontologist? How are fossils discovered, prepared, and ultimately displayed for the public to see? Join us for an immersive experience in paleontology where you will learn about the entire process, from excavating fossils to preparing them for display. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to explore the world of paleontology!

All aboard our time machine and join us to go all the way back to the late 1800s. At our amazing Living History farm, you’ll get to immerse yourselves in the daily activities of kids from back in the day. Gardening, crafts, pioneer games, and more! Experience the Tinsley House and MOR’s Living History Farm in a whole new way and learn how people who lived in Bozeman over 100 years ago survived and thrived.

Explore the varied history and diverse ecosystems of Yellowstone National Park! Meet the extremophiles, thermal features, and variety of flora and fauna that cover Yellowstone’s 2.2 million acres. Learn hands-on about ecology and the natural resources of Yellowstone’s past and present through hands-on games and crafts. Then brave the wilds on an actual trip to the nation’s first national park!

Calling all future paleontologists! Spend a week at MOR immersed in learning about the museum’s world-class dino discoveries and learn the skills it takes to become a paleontologist. Engage with experts and travel to a nearby fossil site to explore Montana’s incredible geology.

You do not need to be an artist for MOR’s art-specific summer camp! Projects will be inspired by our exhibits and collections, including paleo art, modeling, watercolor, chemical reactions, and more. We will get creative and put the A in STEAM education.

Is it science, pseudoscience, or movie magic? Explore mystical topics such as Sasquatch, The Kraken, and even folklore from around the world. Throughout the week, we learn about rainbow serpents, dragons, and even build our very own monster!

Have you always been curious about and loved museums? Want to learn about all MOR is, does, and has? Send your junior museum lover to this camp, and every day, they will explore and discover a new facet of the museum world. From history to science to space to dinosaurs to engineering to archaeology, you’ll see and experience it all!
