Taylor Planetarium

The Taylor Planetarium is a 40-ft, 104-seat domed theater that provides a unique, immersive, educational, and entertaining experience that inspires visitors to explore science and the world around us. Throughout the year, both live and pre-recorded public and K-12 educational shows about astronomy and other topics are presented, as well as periodic entertainment-based laser shows.

Since opening its doors on April 1, 1989, the Planetarium has served an average of 60,000 visitors per year for a total of over 1,076,000 people through 2006. Many in-house productions, such as “The Dinosaur Chronicles” and “Lewis & Clark and the High Frontier,” have run in other planetariums throughout the country, serving an even greater audience outside Montana.

The Taylor Planetarium was one of the first in the world to have an Evans and Sutherland Digistar (serial number 6) digital planetarium projector, which is capable of displaying and flying through an accurate three dimensional star field from any point in space, and from any time a million years in the past or future, as well as any other three dimensional wire-frame object. With its digital planetarium projector, powerful sound system, and an array of slide and special affect projects, our shows can transport audiences from their backyard, across time, to the far reaches of the universe.
