PROJECT ARCHAEOLOGY: INVESTIGATION A PLAINS TIPI
Join us for an exciting trip back in time to investigate a plains tipi archaeological site. Practice the basics of scientific inquiry (observation, inference, evidence, and classification) using authentic archaeological data. This course and the curriculum guide, Project Archaeology: Investigating a Plains Tipi will give you everything you need to engage kids in scientific methods and historic inquiry and show them how archaeology can help us solve problems today. Your students will apply archaeological concepts as they investigate an archaeological tipi site using primary data sources such as maps, artifact illustrations, historic photographs, and oral histories. In your classroom, you can use the curriculum to fulfill many core requirements in Indian Education for All, social studies, science, mathematics, language arts, and art, while your students are discovering archaeology and history through engaging hands-on activities. Investigating Shelter teaches six enduring understandings and all learning is guided by essential questions. In addition, you’ll be engaging your students in civic dialogue using the information gained through genuine inquiry. This course is designed for upper elementary teachers. You will receive full instruction in archaeological science for the classroom and a complete curriculum guide, Project Archaeology: Investigating a Plains Tipi.
