Plan a Visit

The Museum of the Rockies has a 50-year history of providing exciting education opportunities to schoolchildren in Montana and neighboring states. Ensuring that all young learners have an opportunity to experience science-based exploration and discovery is one of the most important things we do. We strongly encourage you to contact us at visitmor@montana.edu or 406.994.5257 to plan and book your visit.

School groups from across the state of Montana are admitted free to the Museum of the Rockies thanks to generous donations from individuals, corporations, and the Montana Cultural Trust. In order to take advantage of the free admission, schools simply have to call the Museum at 994-5257 with three weeks notice to make reservations.

To make your visit a memorable one, we ask that you provide us some general information about your school group and about your visit preferences. The Group Visit Request form should be completed at least three weeks prior to your Museum trip. You may email it to us at visitmor@montana.edu,  or call us at 406.994.5257 with the pertinent information

We understand that visitors to the Museum have diverse interests and needs, so we offer a menu of opportunities to each group. These choices include a variety of group tours and a Planetarium show. These options are noted on the Group Visit Request form.

Please note that we must have at least 3 weeks notice to book a guided tour in the Museum. This allows us to match desired tour dates and times with Museum docents. On the Group Visit Request form, you are asked to select an alternate tour date and time. This enables us to process your request more quickly if your initial choice cannot be accommodated by our docent tour schedule.

Partial reimbursement for travel costs is available for Montana school groups.  Inquire when you call to register for a field trip.
